We take a look at Birmingham’s past in this section with a fantastic short about the dance scene in Birmingham produced by the Media Archive of Central England, and a documentary about legendary Birmingham band Duran Duran.
Birmingham Hits the Floor [dir. MACE] (15min)
From ballroom to disco. From robotics to reggae. An archive film looking back at dance crazes in Birmingham. Remembering those special moments when the only thing to do was to get up and dance. A short film curated by the Media Archive for Central England.
Duran Duran: Rewound [dir. Birmingham Music Heritage] (28min)
Half hour doc about the legendary English New Wave band.
The Chauffeur [dir. Ian Emes] (3min)
Ian Emes wrote, designed, edited and directed this film in the absence of Duran Duran while they were on tour. Emes asked Gilly Taylor to shoot it. Gilly had shot Roman Polanski’s black and white films of the sixties. It was Emes’s intention to colourise segments of the film, but Gilly’s cinematography was so beautiful that the band decided to let it stand on its own merits.
